Uganda, April 16 -- The Uganda National Drug Authority (NDA) has said the batch of the common cough syrup recalled by Kenya last week over safety concerns is not on the "regulated" Ugandan market.

"We refer to circulating news about Benylin Pediatric Cough Syrup Batch 329304, which was found to contain toxic Diethylene Glycol. We have engaged the registered importer of the above product and we confirm that the affected batch 329304 was not supplied to Uganda," NDA said on April 12, 2024.

"We have conducted our surveillance on the market, which confirms that this particular batch number is not on the regulated market," it added.

The harmful substance in the syrup, Diethylene Glycol (DG), was previously linked to the death of babies.
