Uganda, April 27 -- Dr Martin Aliker, a veteran businessman, politician, diplomat and dental practitioner died two Mondays ago. He was 95 and was buried last Sunday at Aworanga, Gulu, where he was born in 1928.

During his long and illustrious career at the intersection of politics and business, Dr Aliker used his strong connections in powerful offices across different countries to position himself as a player in international diplomacy.

In one such example, starting in the early 1990s, Dr Aliker found himself playing a mediation role in the complex relations between the United States of America and Libya, especially on the backdrop of the bombing of an American passenger plane in 1988.
