Sri Lanka, Nov. 12 -- In the wake of people disputing the renunciation of citizenship by SLPP presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the US embassy said it would take several months for an individual's name to appear in the Federal Register after he or she had renounced citizenship.
When asked for a comment in this regard, an embassy spokesman said, "It may be several months before that individual's name appears in the Federal Register after an individual renounces his or her citizenship. With respect to US privacy laws, I cannot comment on individual visa and citizenship cases." (Kelum Bandara)
