Sri Lanka, Sept. 23 -- The Ministry of Defence (MOD) yesterday requested persons who possess a personal firearm or had firearms at institutions, to renew their licenses between October 1 and December 31, 2020.
The ministry said licenses would not be renewed after December 31. Anyone owning and operating a firearm without a valid license will be penalised according to section 22 of the Firearms Ordinance.
Accordingly, the ministry is adopting a serious screening process and a very strict procedure in granting licenses to use firearms in the best interests of civil security.
