Sri Lanka, Sept. 15 -- Mr I.M. B. Premalal was appointed as the new Mayor of Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte Municipal Council unopposed, following the election of previous Mayor to parliament.

Since the previous Mayor Madhura Vithanage was elected to the parliament in the recent General Election from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), the post at the MC fell vacant.

A special council on the appointment of the new mayor was convened under the patronage of Western Province Commissioner Kasun Epa Seneviratne.

At the meeting, Municipal Councillor Colonel Samitha Manojitha Hewa Imaduwa proposed Mr. Premalal for the position. The proposal was seconded by Damith Pushpa Kumara. (Rekha Tharangani Fonseka)
