Sri Lanka, Jan. 20 -- Muslims have become reluctant to go to hospital as they are being cremated if they succumb to COVID-19, MP Rishad Bathiudeen told Parliament today.

"Muslims are scared to go to hospital as they are afraid that they will be cremated if they succumb to COVID-19," Mr. Bathiudeen said.

"Some Government MPs are misinterpreting the holy Quran saying it has not forbidden cremation. One has to read the Quran in an honest manner to understand the truth," he added.

"Muslims have got saddened, as an infant who succumbed to COVID-19 last Saturday has been cremated," he also said.

Also he said Muslim businessmen have been affected by the isolation of Muslim areas including Kattankudy.(Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
