Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed wicket-keeper batsman Kusal Perera as captain for the forthcoming three-match ODI series versus Bangladesh.

Perera, who has 101 One Day International caps to his name, will become Sri Lanka's 24th skipper in the format and will have Kusal Mendis serving as his deputy.

Perera takes over the reigns from Dimuth Karunaratne who has been left out of the squad alongside several other senior players as the selectors look towards the next Cricket World Cup which is to be held in India in 2023.
