Sri Lanka, Jan. 18 -- The Colombo High Court yesterday sentenced former Akuressa PS Chairman Saruwa Liyanage Sunil to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 14-year-old girl in 2012.

In addition, High Court Judge Adithya Patabandige ordered the convict to pay Rs.250,000 as compensation to the victim and a fine of Rs.25,000. He was also sentenced to an additional three years in prison in the event he failed to pay compensation and fines.

The Attorney General filed charges against the former PS member for raping a 14-year-old daughter of a couple who worked under him in 2012 at a hotel he owned. Senior State Counsel Madhava Tennakoon appeared for the Attorney General.
