Mumbai, April 10 -- In a major stride towards transparency and consumer empowerment, all Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) have now published mobile network coverage maps on their respective websites. This development comes in line with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)'s directive under the revised Quality of Service Regulations, 2024, which came into effect from 1st October 2024.
The new mandate ensures that subscribers can visually assess the service availability in any given area before making decisions regarding mobile connectivity. The regulation applies to both wireless voice and broadband services, across wireline and wireless platforms.
Key Regulation Mandate: As per Regulation 06 of 2024, all TSPs providing wireless access services must publish service-wise geospatial coverage maps in a uniform format as specified by TRAI. The deadline for the rollout was 1st April 2025.
To support this implementation, TRAI issued comprehensive technical guidelines under Direction No. RG-17/(3)/2022-QoS, dated 22nd November 2024, ensuring consistency across operators. These are accessible publicly on the TRAI website.
This initiative is expected to: Enhance customer awareness Aid in informed decision-making Promote service accountability among providers Encourage healthy competition and improved service quality
With this move, TRAI reinforces its commitment to transparency, quality of service, and ensuring that India's digital infrastructure is both accessible and accountable to every mobile subscriber.
