Mumbai, March 25 -- Puducherry's administration is considering setting up an IT park and a textile-related sector on the land of the now-defunct Anglo French Textiles (AFT) mill, Home Minister A. Namassivayam informed the Assembly.
Responding to BJP legislator A.B. Ashok Babu, the Minister said the government aims to develop an IT park swiftly but is also evaluating a textile industrial unit, as suggested by the Lieutenant Governor. Given Puducherry's textile legacy, the South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) has been commissioned to assess the feasibility of reviving the mills.
Namassivayam highlighted that the AFT site has ample space to accommodate both projects, with a portion already allocated for the PM-Ekta Mall project. The SITRA report is expected to guide the final decision on whether to restore textile operations.
