Mumbai, May 23 -- Premier Energies Ltd, a leading integrated solar cell and module manufacturer, has entered into a 74:26 joint venture with Taiwan's Sino-American Silicon Products Inc. (SAS), the parent company of GlobalWafers-the world's third-largest producer of semiconductor silicon wafers.
The partnership will establish a state-of-the-art 2 gigawatt per annum manufacturing plant in India. The facility will process polysilicon ingots into silicon wafers used in photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules.
This collaboration brings together Premier Energies' high-volume production capabilities and SAS's global expertise in silicon wafer technology, aiming to boost domestic solar manufacturing in line with India's Make-in-India initiative.
"This marks our backward integration into solar wafers," said Chiranjeev Saluja, Managing Director of Premier Energies. "Our joint venture with SAS will enable high-quality, locally manufactured solar wafers and reduce dependence on imports."
Doris Hsu, Chairperson and CEO of SAS and GlobalWafers, added, "This partnership will reinforce a vital part of the solar value chain and meet rising demand in India and global markets while enhancing supply chain resilience."
