Mumbai, April 10 -- Oil India Limited (OIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Coal Mines Company Limited (CMC) to establish a Rs 1.50 bn Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) plant, reinforcing India's clean energy ambitions. The agreement marks a key step toward enhancing the nation's green fuel infrastructure and reducing reliance on conventional fossil fuels.
The upcoming CNG facility will be developed in Assam, leveraging the region's natural gas resources. The plant is expected to bolster local fuel availability, lower vehicular emissions, and promote the use of environment-friendly transportation alternatives. The collaboration underscores the government's push for sustainable energy solutions and supports the national objective of a gas-based economy.
Both OIL and CMC will work jointly on the project's execution, with a strong focus on environmental standards, safety, and technological efficiency. The venture is also expected to stimulate local employment and aid in regional development.
The MoU reflects a broader trend of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) aligning their strategies with India's climate goals. By expanding CNG infrastructure, this initiative not only meets commercial energy needs but also contributes to a cleaner, greener future for the country.
