Mumbai, March 19 -- The North Central Railway (NCR) has successfully completed the electrification of its entire broad gauge (BG) network, covering 3,293.49 route kilometers and 7,614.34 track kilometers by the end of February 2025.
The electrification is powered by three 220/132 kV grid substations and 62 traction substations, ensuring robust electric traction across the network. NCR's routes are vital to high-density corridors like Delhi-Howrah, Delhi-Mumbai, and Delhi-Chennai.
NCR's electrification journey began with the Ghaziabad-Prayagraj-Mughalsarai section (1965-1976), followed by the Palwal-Mathura section in 1984 and the Mathura-Jhansi-Bina section (1984-1988). The final stretch, Ishanagar-Udaipura (76 route km) in Jhansi Division, was completed on October 21, 2022.
With this achievement, Indian Railways' total electrified broad gauge network now spans 64,547 route kilometers, marking significant progress in energy efficiency and sustainability.
