Mumbai, April 24 -- Around 35 per cent of the redevelopment work at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Railway Station has been completed, with a new station building rising from the Satara side. The facility is expected to become operational by November.
Part of Indian Railways' nationwide revamp of 508 stations, the Rs 2.41 billion project aims to equip the station with modern amenities and improved passenger infrastructure. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched the scheme on August 6, 2023.
The upgraded station will include larger entry and exit gates, a 450-metre roof plaza, four chambers, and a host of new facilities. The existing structure will be demolished in May to make way for a new building. The entire redevelopment is targeted for completion by April 2025.
MP Dr. Bhagwat Karad recently inspected the progress, accompanied by South Central Railway Divisional Manager Pradeep Kamale and other officials.
Alongside the station overhaul, a Rs 750 million railway bridge is planned at the MIDC area, with a Detailed Project Report set to be prepared soon. Officials also proposed a tunnel at Mukundwadi station to enhance connectivity.
