Mumbai, March 4 -- The headline equity benchmarks continued to trade with small losses in mid-morning trade as market sentiment was weighed down by US President Donald Trump's decision to implement tariffs on Canada and Mexico starting today, along with Canada's retaliatory tariffs on US goods. The Nifty tanked below the 22,100 level. FMCG shares declined after advancing for the previous trading session.

At 11:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, fell 140.84 points or 0.20% to 72,945.88. The Nifty 50 index shed 50.25 points or 0.23% to 22,068.90.

The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.33%, and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index added 1.49%.
