Mumbai, May 21 -- The domestic equity benchmarks traded with modest gains in afternoon trade, supported by sustained buying interest. Investors remained focused on global cues and Q4 earnings announcements. The Nifty traded above the 24,750 mark.

Barring the Nifty consumer durables index, all the other sectoral indices on the NSE traded in green.

At 13:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex gained 321.34 points or 0.40% to 81,507.82. The Nifty 50 index rose 99.05 points or 0.40% to 24,782.80.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rallied 0.65% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index added 0.16%.

The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 2,012 shares rose and 1,835 shares fell. A total of 160 shares were unchanged.
