Mumbai, Dec. 22 -- The Mahayuti alliance of the BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP recorded a sweeping victory in Maharashtra's municipal council and nagar panchayat elections, winning 207 of the 288 posts of local body presidents. The ruling alliance restricted the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi to just 44 posts, underscoring its dominance at the grassroots level.

According to the State Election Commission, the BJP won 117 president posts, followed by Shiv Sena with 53 and the NCP with 37, while the Congress bagged 28, the NCP (SP) seven, and Shiv Sena (UBT) nine.

Elections were held in two phases across 286 local bodies, with candidates in two councils elected unopposed.
