Mumbai, Nov. 19 -- Jeera futures are turning lower, adding to recent spate of weakness as markets eye the ongoing sowing data and look at the possibility of a large crop this season. The latest official data shows that area under Jeera stood at 40012 hectares as on 17th November. This is up sharply compared to around 17700 hectares at the same time last year, marking a spurt of 126%. This is also around 10.50% compared to the normal area. Jeera prices are easing in spot markets following this as the wholesale price index for the commodity stood at 165 in October, marking a sustained drop in this fiscal year as it stood at 197.3 in April.
