Mumbai, Feb. 7 -- Household spending in Japan surged 2.7% year-on-year in December 2024, marking the first growth in five months. This was the strongest rise since August 2022, driven by a winter bonus. Spending rebounded in clothing and footwear, transport and communication, culture and recreation, other consumption, and miscellaneous items. Housing and medical care expenditures also grew, while education spending slowed sharply. Food, fuel, and household goods continued to decline. On a monthly basis, spending rose 2.3%, accelerating from a 0.4% gain in November.
