Mumbai, Feb. 18 -- At the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, Union Minister for Electronics & IT Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that India will expand its AI compute capacity by adding 20,000 GPUs to the existing 38,000 GPUs, marking the next phase of the country's AI strategy.

He said India is focused on responsible AI development and wider use of AI in sectors like healthcare and education. The strategy reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of democratizing technology, ensuring AI access is available to many and not limited to a few companies.
