Mumbai, March 4 -- Copper fell sharply today as global trade concerns weighed on the sentiments. Sweeping tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico and China went into effect just after midnight on Tuesday, raising U.S. tariffs to levels not seen in decades. Donald Trump administration added a 25 percent tariff on all imports from Canada and Mexico. The administration also added another 10 percent tariff on all imports from China. China also retaliated with its own set of tariffs and pulled COMEX Copper well under $4.60 per pound. The metal currently quotes at $4.54 per ounce, down around 1.25% on the day.
