Mumbai, Jan. 12 -- The total number of active drilling rigs for oil and gas in the United States fell by 4 in the week ending Jan 09, according to new data that Baker Hughes published earlier this week, bringing the total rig count in the US to 544, down 40 from this same time last year. The number of active oil rigs fell by 3 in the reporting period, according to the data. Oil rigs are now at 409, which is 71 below this same time last year. The number of gas rigs fell by 1 to 124, which is 24 more than this time last year. The miscellaneous rig count rose by 2.
