Mumbai, March 4 -- US President Donald Trump's long-threatened tariffs against Canada and Mexico finally went into effect Tuesday. Starting just past midnight, imports from Canada and Mexico are now to be taxed at 25 per cent. In addition, the 10 per cent tariff that Trump placed on Chinese imports in February is doubling to 20 per cent. Trump said Monday that there was "no room left for Mexico or for Canada" to avoid the steep new tariffs, which were also set to tax Canadian energy products such as oil and electricity at a lower 10% rate.
