Mumbai, March 12 -- Malaysia's retail sales surged 8.4 percent year-on-year in January 2025, up from 5.4 percent, marking the fastest growth since May 2024. Sales rose across all sub-sectors, led by stalls, markets, and non-specialized stores. Wholesale trade growth slowed to 4.6 percent, while motor vehicle sales plunged 9.1 percent after a 6.9 percent rise in December. Monthly, retail sales increased 0.5 percent, down from 1.5 percent in the prior period.
