U.K, March 16 -- Building on its roots in the region, Apple has announced the creation of a brand-new R&D facility in Munich, to focus on 5G and future wireless technologies, and is investing US$1 billion over the next three years.

This will extend Apple's already heavy presence in the city with its largest engineering hub in Europe.

Exploring new frontiers of 5G technology This new 30,000sqm state-of-the-art facility, dubbed the European Silicon Design Center, will be home to Apple's growing cellular unit, and Europe's largest R&D site for mobile wireless semi-conductors and software.
