Srinagar, Dec. 2 -- World AIDS Day, observed annually on December 1, serves as a reminder of the global fight against HIV/AIDS, the importance of awareness, early testing, and compassionate care for those affected. While India has made significant strides in controlling the epidemic, pockets of vulnerability, such as Jammu and Kashmir, continue to pose public health challenges that require urgent attention. In recent years, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a slow but steady rise in HIV cases. Although the overall adult prevalence remains low, between 0.03% and 0.06%, new infections are occurring, particularly among high-risk groups such as people who inject drugs (PWID).
