Jammu, Feb 11, Feb. 11 -- Commissioner Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Chowdhary, termed the Rs.54,000 crore lost to cyber fraud in India as "digital dacoity," echoing recent Supreme Court observations. Speaking at a conference organized by the IT Department on Safer Internet Day, Dr. Chowdhary highlighted the growing threat of cyber fraud, with criminals exploiting digital platforms and advanced technologies, including AI, to target citizens. He noted that nearly Rs.20,000 crore was lost to online scams across the country last year, affecting families, students, and elderly citizens.
