Srinagar, Sept. 25 -- The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday blamed the unrest in Leh to provocative speeches by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who had been on a hunger strike since September 10 demanding Sixth Schedule and statehood for Ladakh.The MHA in a statement highlighted that the Government of India has been actively engaging with the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance through the High-Powered Committee (HPC) and multiple informal meetings, achieving significant progress on constitutional safeguards, tribal reservations, women representation, and official recognition of local languages."A hunger strike was started by Wangchuk on 10-09-2025 stating the demand of 6th schedule and statehood for Ladakh.
