Jammu, Feb 4, Feb. 5 -- Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo informed the Assembly that regular market inspections and rice sampling are being conducted across Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar, to check adulteration. During the 2025-26 financial year, 121 rice samples were sent to NABL-accredited labs, with 110 reports received so far. Seven samples were found 'Not of Standard Quality' (NSQ), and cases have been filed under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.Of the NSQ samples, three had folic acid levels below prescribed standards, while four contained chalky kernels exceeding limits. The department continues market inspections across the Union Territory to ensure compliance.
