Srinagar, April 26 -- An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Sopore in north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Thursday evening.
A police official said a cordon and search operation was jointly launched by police, CRPF and army at Check Mohalla Nowpora area of Sopore in the evening after receiving inputs about the presence of militants there.
He said while the search operation was going on, the security men came under gunfire from terrorists hiding in the area.
"The fire was returned by the troops, triggering an encounter. The exchange of gunfire between the two sides was going on when reports last poured in," the police official said.
