Srinagar, Nov. 10 -- The Environmental Policy Group (EPG) has raised concerns over political interference and unscientific planning undermining environmental protection in Jammu and Kashmir. EPG Convenor Faiz Ahmad Bakshi said that encroachers and vested interests are being shielded, threatening fragile ecosystems such as Hokersar and Shalbugh wetlands. In Hokersar, false claims about submerged paddy fields are being used to justify illegal land reclamation, while desilting at Shalbugh has been arbitrarily halted, increasing flood risks.
