Dhaka, March 1 -- Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has called on people to avoid indulgence, hatred and conflict during the month of Ramadan and focus on prayer and devotion.

In a message on Saturday, the interim prime minister said: "The month of fasting and self-restraint has arrived.

"In this sacred month, through self-control, we achieve spiritual purification and gain the invaluable opportunity to seek the pleasure, closeness, and forgiveness of Almighty Allah."

He continued, "Fasting plays an extraordinary role in fostering mutual compassion, harmony and brotherhood among the rich and poor alike.

"Let us protect the sanctity of Ramadan by demonstrating restraint, patience and moderation in all aspects of life."
