Dhaka, Jan. 22 -- Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of M Hafizuddin Khan, a former adviser to the caretaker government and a prominent civil society figure.

In a condolence message issued on Thursday, Yunus recalled the deceased's long career in public service and his contributions to the welfare of the state and its people.

"M Hafizuddin Khan was an honest, wise and responsible statesman. His dedication and moral stance in public service will remain an exemplary example for us," the chief advisor said.

He also spoke of a personal bond with Khan, describing him as a classmate and close friend.
