Dhaka, June 16 -- Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has ordered the institution of a committee to investigate the roles of former top Election Commission officials in organising three previous 'controversial' parliamentary polls.

The directive came during a meeting of the National Consensus Commission held at the State Guest House Jamuna on Monday, according to a statement from the Chief Advisor's Office.

The investigation will focus on former chief election commissioners, election commissioners, and secretaries at the Election Commission Secretariat who were involved in organising votes overseen by the previous Awami League government, the statement said.
