Dhaka, Feb. 14 -- Muhammad Yunus, chief advisor of the interim government, has congratulated BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on his party's decisive victory in the parliamentary election.

On Saturday, he sent a message to the BNP chief, noting that the people's clear mandate represents an important milestone for democratic continuity and institutional stability in Bangladesh.

Voting took place in 299 of the country's 300 parliamentary constituencies on Thursday, alongside a nationwide referendum.

Results for 297 seats have been declared, while two constituencies in Chattogram await court directives, and Sherpur-3 remains suspended following the death of a Jamaat-e-Islami candidate.
