Dhaka, Feb. 10 -- Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has urged candidates and political parties to place the nation's interests above partisan considerations once the election is over.

In a televised address to the nation on Tuesday evening, two days before polling, he called on all sides to accept the outcome in a democratic spirit.

"Just as victory is part of democracy, defeat is also an inseparable truth," he said. "After the election, let us work together to build a new, just, democratic and inclusive Bangladesh."

Yunus reaffirmed that the interim government would hand over power to elected representatives as soon as possible.
