Dhaka, Feb. 18 -- A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking to have the July National Charter declared inconsistent with the Constitution and its implementation suspended.
Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond filed the public interest petition on Wednesday.
The cabinet secretary, law secretary, National Consensus Commission and chief election commissioner, among others, have been named as respondents.
Akond said the petition seeks a rule asking why the July Charter should not be declared unconstitutional and a directive to suspend its operation until the matter is settled.
The petition is expected to be heard next week.
