Dhaka, Dec. 28 -- A woman and her son have died after being hit by a train in Bogura's Sonatala Upazila, with police suspecting suicide.

The incident occurred around 9:30am on Sunday in Chhoyghoria Para of Sonatala Municipality, said Sonatala Police Station Sub-Inspector Shariful Islam.

The victims were identified as Rony Begum, 30, a resident of the Doail area in Gobindaganj Upazila, and her 8-year-old son Arafat.

Police said Rony had been heading towards Sonatala with her son in the morning and was standing on the railway track when a local man noticed them and tried to intervene.

Moments later, a Santahar-Lalmonirhat-bound Padmarag train struck the mother and son, killing them on the spot.
