Dhaka, March 6 -- The Dhaka Metropolitan Police, or DMP, has warned that it will take action if Hizb ut-Tahrir, the banned Islamist organisation, holds the programme it announced at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Friday.
The DMP issued a press release on the matter on Thursday.
The release reiterated that Hizb ut-Tahrir is a banned organisation under Bangladesh's laws.
The Bangladesh government banned the organisation as a "threat to public security" on Oct 22, 2009.
According to the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009, all activities of any banned organisation - including meetings, rallies, processions, the distribution of posters, leaflets and other means of propaganda - are punishable under the law.
