Dhaka, Feb. 4 -- The Election Commission has cancelled the Feb 12 vote in Sherpur-3 (Sreebordi-Jhenaigati) constituency in the 13th parliamentary election following the death of Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Nuruzzaman Badol.

Returning Officer and Sherpur Deputy Commissioner Tarfadar Mahmudur Rahman said, "The process of issuing a public notice regarding the cancellation of voting in Sherpur-3 is under way. After that, the Election Commission will announce a fresh schedule."

Badol, the secretary of the district's Jamaat unit, had been suffering from kidney disease for a long time. He died at Mymensingh's Sodesh Hospital at 3am on Wednesday. He was 52.
