Bangladesh, July 11 -- The US government sees the allegations against Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus as a possible instance of labour law violations in Bangladesh.

The State Department spokesman Matthew Miller clarified Washington's position on the case pending appeal verdict during a regular briefing on Tuesday night.

When asked about the US position on Yunus's case, he said: "We continue to monitor closely developments in the case against him (Yunus).

"We have expressed for some time our concern that these cases may represent a misuse of Bangladesh's labour laws to harass and intimidate Yunus."

A court case is ongoing against former Grameen Bank managing director Yunus for labour law violations and embezzling employee funds.
