Dhaka, Dec. 19 -- The United States and European Union missions in Dhaka have expressed condolences over the death of political activist Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, who was shot in the capital last week.

Both missions posted messages on social media on Friday mourning his death and offering sympathies to his family and supporters.

"The US Embassy joins the people of Bangladesh in mourning the loss of youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi and offers our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and supporters," the US Embassy said.

The EU delegation in Dhaka said it was "deeply saddened" by Hadi's death and expressed sympathy to his family, friends and others affected.
