Dhaka, Feb. 12 -- Two individuals have been sentenced to two years in jail each after attempting to cast fraudulent votes in the Sirajganj-4 and Jhalakhati-2 constituencies.

The incident in Sirajganj took place on Thursday at a polling station in Ullapara.

Md Sanu Akand, head of the constituency's election inquiry and judicial committee, said the convict, 22-year-old Rubel Hossain, had returned to the centre after casting his own ballot and tried to vote on behalf of an expatriate voter.

Officials on duty detained him and he was later tried in a summary court, where he was handed a two-year sentence and sent to jail.
