Bangladesh, July 31 -- Two more people have died of dengue in the past 24 hours, while 278 patients have been hospitalised nationwide as the death toll from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease rose to 83 this year.

A total of 20,980 people have now been admitted to hospitals this year due to the disease.

The Directorate General of Health Services reported that two dengue patients died in the 24 hours leading up to Monday -- one in Dhaka South City Corporation, and one in Chattogram.

So far, 41 people have died of dengue in July, marking the highest monthly tally this year. The second highest was in June, with 19 deaths.

In addition, 10 people died in January, three in February, seven in April, and three in May.
