Dhaka, July 14 -- A Dhaka court has placed two brothers, Sajib Bepari and Rajib Bepari, on a five-day remand in police custody for questioning in connection with the grisly murder of scrap trader Md Sohag, who was bludgeoned to death near Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka.

On Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Mia passed the order after hearing a petition from the investigation officer, Kotwali police Inspector Md Moniruzzaman.

The inspector had sought a seven-day remand for each accused.

When asked by the court if they had legal counsel, the two brothers replied that they did not. Rajib told the magistrate, "Sajib Bepari is my elder brother. I didn't do anything. I am innocent."
