Bangladesh, July 11 -- A woman and a child have been killed in separate landslides after heavy rain in Cox's Bazar.
The incidents occurred in the Sikder Bazar area of Ward No. 7 in the Cox's Bazar municipality and in the city's ABC Ghona area, according to Md Rakibuzzaman, chief of Cox's Bazar Sadar Police Station.
The dead were identified as Jamila Akhtar, 30, and Saiful Islam's 5-year-old son Nazmul Hasan.
"Since midnight on Wednesday, there had been persistent moderate to heavy rain in Cox's Bazar city," said Rakibuzzaman, citing locals.
"Early on Thursday morning, a landslide struck Saiful Islam's house. It broke through their mud wall and trapped the sleeping Nazmul inside."
