Dhaka, Feb. 2 -- The Election Commission has announced restrictions on the movement of several types of vehicles across the country ahead of the election and referendum.

According to the directive, the movement of taxi cabs, pick-ups, microbuses and trucks will be barred from 12am on Feb 11 to 12am on Feb 12.

In addition, motorcycles will be barred from operating from 12am on Feb 10 until 12am on Feb 13.

The ban was announced in a notice issued by the Road Transport and Highways Division on Sunday, a statement said.

However, the restrictions will not apply to vehicles used by law enforcing agencies, the armed forces, administrative authorities and authorised election observers.
