Bangladesh, Sept. 17 -- The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched proceedings against seven people, including former Bangladesh Railway director-general Towhidul Anwar Chowdhury, accusing them of causing a financial loss of Tk 5.98 billion to the state through the Diesel Electric Multiple Units (DEMU) train project.

Assistant Director Raju Ahmed filed the case with the watchdog's Integrated District Office, Dhaka-1, on Tuesday, ACC Deputy Director Aktarul Islam said.

Officials said the project was pushed through despite being "ineffective, unprofitable, and incompatible" with the country's railway infrastructure, technology, and environment, resulting in heavy losses.
