Dhaka, March 31 -- After a month of fasting, Muslim devotees have gathered at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka for the first Eid-ul-Fitr prayer service.

The initial Eid prayers began at 7am on Monday.

Devotees gathered for the service from different parts of the capital around 6am, wearing pyjama pants and Punjabi kurtas, with skullcaps on their heads, and scented attar on their bodies. Children accompanied their parents and guardians.

Heavy security measures were in place around the Eid prayer service. Security archways were set up at each gate.

The mosque was filled with devotees before 7am. The first prayer service was led by Imam Hafez Mufti Maulana Muhibullahil Baki.
