Dhaka, Jan. 11 -- A 10-year-old girl who was hit by gunfire coming from across the Myanmar border in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf is still alive and is being transferred to Chattogram for treatment, according to authorities. Earlier reports had indicated that the child had died.

The incident occurred around 10am on Sunday in the Whykong area near the border, according to police.

The child, identified by a single name as Afnan, is a 4th-grader at a local government primary school who lives in Whykong's Techchibridge area.

Police initially reported that she had died, but Whykong Union's acting chairman Md Shahjalal later said the information was incorrect.
